Hi, we're Sandy & Phil and we live in Massachusetts. The picture above is probably all you'll see of us along with maybe a leg, foot or hand as we are both camera shy. We decided it would be nice to create a website for people who love to travel with their dog. When Phil and I first met I had two cats. They were my kids but they were getting old (Eiyshia was going on 20 years old, and Maya was going on 18 years old). When I was growing up we had parakeets and cats, Phil grew up having dogs. So this would be a different experience for me.. We had started discussing adopting a dog from a shelter. I started doing some research of animal shelters in Massachusetts. We had gone to see a few dogs that were posted as being available for adoption. There were several that we liked, but found out that other people had already wanted to adopt them. We weren't in any hurry, so we continued our search. One day Phil had come home and said that he was approached at work about taking a dog whose owner had abandoned her due to having to relocate. We felt that this would be a good opportunity to see if having a dog would fit into our lifestyle. Phil brought Taffy home over Thanksgiving weekend back in 1999. This gave us a long weekend to see how things worked out for us. I still had both my cats at that time, so Taffy had the run of the kitchen with the help of a child gate. After a couple of weeks she easily fell into a pattern with the four of us. The cats were unsure of Taffy, all they knew was that she was on their turf and they weren't going to give an inch. Taffy, however viewed the cats as playmates but couldn't understand why she wasn't allowed to play with them. In the spring of 2000 Eiyshia's health had started to fail. She couldn't walk anymore so the decision was made to have her put to sleep. This was the hardest decision for me to make, but it was the best one for Eiyshia. She had lived a good life. Maya had a tough time adjusting to life without Eiyshia. She was Maya's surrogate mother, and after 18 years she was suddenly gone. We all fell into a daily pattern, Taffy still confined to the kitchen when she wasn't outside, and Maya avoiding her at all costs. In the spring of 2001 almost a day to the year that Eiyshia had gone, Maya's health had started to fail. Not wanting her to suffer the same fate that Eiyshia had gone through, the decision was made to put her to sleep. Having Taffy made the transition easier to deal with. In 2000 we started traveling. Our first trip was to Niagara Falls. It renewed Phil's love of photography. Those pictures were taken with disposable camera's and Phil's 35mm camera. Phil had always vacationed in the White Mountains of New Hampshire with his family when he was growing up. He wanted to show me where these places where that he remembered from his childhood. So our so our second trip was there. The pictures taken in the White Mountains were taken with a 35mm camera with various film speeds and his Canon Digital camera. We had boarded Taffy with a local kennel that is owned by the dog officer in our town. When we picked her up she was so happy to see us, but we did notice there was a change in her behavior. On our second trip back to the White Mountains. We again boarded her at another kennel recommended by a co-worker. When we picked her up we were disappointed to see that her bedding was soiled and her behavior again showed a marked change to it. It was after this last time that we decided that she would accompany us on our trips. So after 2 years and several pictures later we felt we wanted to share with others ours trips with our favorite mutt. We hope you'll enjoy this site and come back often as we will be updating it as we explore new places.
Thanks for stopping by.
