The Holland House Cottage in Brunswick Maine

In
our never-ending quest to find places to go with our dog, Phil found a gem in
the Holland Bed & Breakfast Cottage.
At first when we came across their website we viewed the pictures there
and wondered to ourselves this must be one big room. The dog was welcome so we decided to book the cottage for the
weekend.
Located
in Brunswick Maine, it was a nice 21/2-hour ride. Being October, the changing color of the leaves added to the
enjoyment. Once we got into Brunswick
we found our way to Mere Point Road and headed south. This is the main road that runs down the peninsula, once we found
the road we needed we headed off to find the cottage. We rounded a curve and on the right side of the road set back on
the property was the cottage. Before
going inside we decided to look over the property and were amazed by what we
saw. We followed the boardwalk that was
the pathway to the back of the cottage, this turned into a flight of stairs
that descended down hill to the water.
At the bottom was a dock to tie up your skiff. Further out into the deep water was a mooring to anchor your
boat. Across the bay was Birch
Island. Numerous islands could be seen
from the dock off in the distance.
Heading
back to the house, Phil grabbed his cameras and went inside to photograph the
interior of the cottage. While he was
doing that I let Taffy out to stretch her legs. She went nuts, running down the boardwalk and started down the
stairs. She found the water and before
I knew it she was splashing around in it.
She headed back up the stairs and must have caught sight of a chipmunk,
as she shot off into the woods to chase it.
She wandered around in the woods for a while and I finally got her
out. When Phil was done it was time
un-pack the car. He first set up a rope
for Taffy, so we could get our things into the house and she could dry off.
When we went inside, I could not believe my eyes. The pictures on the website didn’t do this place justice. The living room was large and open to the kitchen, which had a stove, refrigerator, microwave, coffeemaker and a dishwasher. Everything you could need for your stay was in the kitchen, dishes, silverware, pots and pans. To the right of the refrigerator was a desk that held a phone and with chair. There was peninsula with two barstools that separated the kitchen from the living room. The living had a sofa that made out into a bed, an overstuffed chair with an ottoman, a dining table, rocking chair and coffee table. In the corner was a gas stove used to heat the room. This was my favorite item in the room as it simulated a fireplace. There were two glass doors that opened to a small deck off the living room with a beautiful half round window above them. The view was incredible. The bedroom had a queen-sized bed, a basket that was filled with towels, a television and a closet with a hamper and 2 terry cloth bathrobes. The living room and bedroom had wall-to-wall carpeting and kitchen and bathroom had linoleum. There was a stall shower in the bathroom. I hate to admit this but the cottage was a lot nicer than our apartment. I was ready to move in for the rest of my life.
